The dataset covers around 1,100 parks and open spaces across Edmonton, offering a rich look at the city’s green spaces. Nearly all sites are classified as parks, with just over a dozen labeled as open spaces.

Park Types & Classes

The most common type by far is the Pocket Park, making up about one-third of all entries. These are smaller parks, usually nestled within neighborhoods. School and Community Parks come next, representing about one in four parks, followed by Natural Area Parks and Urban Village Parks, each making up roughly 10–15%.

Larger citywide spaces like City Parks and District Activity Parks are less common, together making up just under 10%. A small number fall into unique categories like Greenways and Other Land Types.

Status Breakdown

About 95% of the parks are fully active and available for public use. A handful are still in development or have been assembled for future park space—showing Edmonton’s ongoing investment in recreation infrastructure.

Neighbourhood Highlights

Parks are spread across the city, but a few neighborhoods like Downtown, Glenwood, Strathcona, and Edgemont stand out with 6 to 9 parks each. This highlights both mature urban cores and growing suburbs with a strong park presence.
