Name: Marg Schimpf Rating: 1 Date: 2016-07-31 Review: We had a terrible experience at St. Andrews on Easter Sunday. My sister and I took my mom to mass. She is 84 years old, has vision, hearing and mobility issues. We brought her to the front so that she could both see and hear better. As we tried to enter the pew a parishioner blocked our way and blatantly said, "There are places at the back for those people". (People with walkers). My sister, not to be deterred, looked for a place for the walker. From the same parishioner she was met with, "You can't put that there." Fortunately, one of the Sisters came and said, "Of course you can." We got mom settled in the front and participated gladly at mass. My mom has rarely missed a Sunday mass in her 84 years. What a shame. What a welcome to a new parishioner and her family. I spoke to the priest about it after mass and he seemed more concerned with placating me than listening and taking action to ensure everyone is welcomed in his parish especially those who have worshiped God and served the church for many, many years. I only hope that by posting this parishes will become greater advocates in welcoming all to mass. We thank with all our hearts the Nun who came to our rescue. You were most certainly the embodiment of Christ in that moment. God Bless. |
